Building Regulations

The Building Regulations have been governing how we construct buildings for more than 40 years and are subject to frequent change as building materials and standards improve.

Nearly all changes you might want to make to a house are governed by the regulations, with the exception of garden walls and sheds and internal non-structural alterations.

Even installing a log burner can require permission.

Applying for building regulations usually follows planning approval and the process normally takes a few weeks, depending on the complexity of the scheme.

The plans created to gain Planning Permission can be used to obtain Building Regulations approval, amended and annotated and with additional sections showing how the structure will be built.

In some cases, detailed large-scale drawings are needed to illustrate complex or unusual areas of construction.

These plans also enable builders to accurately cost the project, as they provide an exact specification of materials and standards required for the build.
